We are blessed to have The Stacking Stones Band here in Arlington. When I found them at this year’s Porchfest, I was really impressed by the quality of their sound. They call themselves “garage country” among other things, but they’re a lot tighter than most garage outfits I’ve heard. Check out their new album. Here they are performing in front of the Arlington Visitor Center (where the Minuteman Bike Path crosses Arlington Center).
A couple days ago I sat down with acoustic guitarist Eric Dearing from Stacking Stones, and we talked Arlington music. Eric, a long-time Arlingtonian, is excited by how much more bubbling and percolating of local music energy there is recently. Some of that is thanks to weekly live music nights hosted by Common Ground Arlington and Menotomy Grill & Tavern. Also on the jazz side I know a growing suite of programs run by Morningside Music Studio, like the monthly jazz jam and singer showcase, and the annual Arlington Jazz Festival. I am interested to learn more about Jesse Williams, who also contributes a ton to the Arlington jazz scene in addition to hosting most of the music nights at Menotomy Grill & Tavern.
